::Open RP - A's Garden::

It was a lovely day, really.

Even if the weather had been less than ideal, A would have gone to the garden. The plants needed to be tended, after all, and right now he's kneeling by the catnip bed, pulling out the few weeds that have dared to encroach on his territories.

Now that he has a computer with an internet connection, A is Discovering music, and he's singing, very badly, as he weeds.

He can't carry a tune, but there's an odd hiccuping tone to his voice that's a clear attempt to mimic Buddy Holly.

"Good," A said weakly. "It's for my cats. And if I need to give someone a tea to stop them being sick to their stomach."

"So, what," he said slightly muffled, "you're a doctor too?"

"I'm learning medicines," A told him. "Learning what plants are good to treat sickness and injuries. Not... not a doctor."

A hated and feared doctors.

"Wait. I thought that's what doctors did? They help sick and injured people get better, right? Course, if their name's in a Death Note, no amount of help can save them."

Ryuk, you fucking blabbermouth.

"Doctors do tests. Tests and experiments. With needles and drugs."

Nothing at all like herbal remedies.

"What... what's a Death Note?"

"Something I have. You write a person's name in it, and they die. Sounds morbid, but it's how I live. Their lifespan becomes mine."

"Killing people is wrong," A says, because that's what L tells him.

"To you humans, yeah, it's wrong. To us shinigami, it's a way of life. They die so we live."

"That's... it's like..." Folklore never featured heavily in A's education, and he had to think about it. "It's like a vampire."

"Vampire? No, we don't suck humans' blood. That's pointless."

"But you live off of people. You make them die to make you strong."

"Strong's not the word I'd use. Yeah, we kill humans, but what do most of the shinigami do with their lives? Gamble. It's the reason I dropped a Death Note onto Earth in the first place."

"You..." A looked up at Ryuk with a distressed frown.

"You write someone's name in it, and it kills them. And... it doesn't have to be you that does it..."

"You..." A balled one hand into a fist and pressed it to his mouth. It could kill so many people... how?

L wouldn't like it. No, no, he wouldn't.

"Hey, you okay?" Ryuk peered down at A.

"That would, someone could kill people, and it would be easy, so easy..."

"Yeah, it was. The kid that got the Death Note tried to create a new world. He got stopped in the end, but he nearly succeeded."

"Killing people wouldn't make a new world. It would just make a lot of dead people."

Civilizations rise and fall, but human nature remains unchanged.

"Pretty much. Not my fault he was delusional. Especially at the end. My killing him was almost a mercy killing, except I doubt Near would think of it as mercy toward Light."

"Light? I..." He hadn't liked Light, not at all. And L didn't like Light.

"Light didn't like my kittens," he mumbled finally.

"Why? Cats are all right. They could always sense me, even though they can't see me. Must be a cat thing."

"Cats are smart," A tells him.

Well, except for the time Einstein rolled off the bed in his sleep.

"They are very good at being happy and sleeping."

Two skills A could use work on.

"Schrodinger likes to suck my hair," A offers. "And she bites ankles, but not as often or as hard as she used to."
