Kusuriyuri seldom gave away any trace of excitement. He was calm, collected, his expression a near impenetrable mask of calm. Unless you look closer. Then you can see he has a cutting wit and an active sense of humor.

He also loves kittens and plants.

Today was a very good day for gardening. Ryuzaki, L, had said he would join later. Kusuriyuri was very privately of the opinion that L did not wish to clear the land before the plants could be put in. But, that didn't matter. He enjoyed the feel of the earth under his fingers, the metal of the tools, the wood of the plants, the water that nourished them and the fire of the sun that helped them grow. Very seldom did one get to actively work with all five elements.

And kittens.

A said he planned on bringing the kittens. Kusuriyuri was rather amused at the idea and looking forward to it.

The sun was just barely starting to pink the sky when he tapped on A's door five times.

Kusuriyuri smiles indulgently. "If they were not happy, they would not use such tricks. They will survive a little busy-ness. Their bath, though," he trails off, at his most serious, and therefore most making fun of A.

"I'll help with that," L says, picking up his shovel again.

"Most kittens do not like water."

"They'll like being grimy less," A responds decisively. Schrodinger is flecked with brown all over. It will definitely be bath time after this.

"There is catnip in the medicine chest. It will make them more amiable to being bathed. And, I think, if you are calm, they will be as well, deshi."

"One hopes," L agrees, starting again to shovel.

"They will probably not like it. But they will forgive me." The book on cat-raising has made A more confident. He eyes the hole he's dug, and holds the rosebush in it to see if it's deep enough yet.

"I am sure of it," Kusuriyuri murmurs as he begins planting the lavender, still humming over it as he does.

"Oh," he murmurs softly. "The tree will need to be watered in." He sets down the plant he is working with and gets up to pour the buckets of water over it. "I will return with more."

"You're a faster digger than I am," L observes, taking another shovelful out of his. He's not nearly there yet. (Mostly because he stopped to play with kittens.)

"I don't think this is quite deep enough yet. But almost." A's eager to see everything planted.

Kusuriyuri returns with water and pours more on the tree before finishing with the lavender and watering it in. "We should rest soon," he murmurs.

L picks up his rosebush, to see if it'll fit. (It does, he has good spatial sense.)

"I think we're nearly ready. I'll get the water this time."

Another few shovelfuls, and A's hole in the ground is rosebush-ready as well. "After these, it's only the violets," he observes.

"Thank you, Ryuzaki-kun," Kusuriyuri murmurs.

To A, he asks, "Did you want the violets in rows? or just planted around the tree?" Either way, the kittens will have to move and will be mildly put out, but will recover soon enough.

The stream is near enough, and it's no trouble. He nods at Kusuriyuri and picks up the buckets, heading in that direction.

A pats the earth into place around the rosebush, then looks over to Kusuriyuri.

"Rows, I think, to match the rest of the garden. I'll help."

After all, that's all that's left.

"Little kittens-chan, we are disturbing your bed," Kusuriyuri murmurs while picking up Einstein and setting him behind. He picks up Scrodinger, repeating the salutation. Schrodinger complains and climbs his back, demanding the attention she normally gets.

L returns, and sets one bucket next to A, before going to water his own rosebush.

"They're being better behaved than they could be." One must admit.

A waters his rosebush, then moves to start digging rows for the violets.

"I am sure they will make up for it later," A observes, laughing at the way Schrodinger climbs Kusuriyuri.

"They will, indeed." Scrodinger stands on Kusuriyuri's shoulder and meows pitifully. He laughs a little and scratches her chin. She twists until his fingers are behind her ears and lets out a contented mrrow with her purrs. A short break won't hurt.

Einstein, sensing there is petting to be had, climbs into Kusuriyuri's lap and mews hopefully. Kusuriyuri begins petting him as well. "It seems I am taken captive."

L sits back as well, rosebush planted, and then moves after A to start helping with the last of the work for the violets.

"I like the colours she gave us."

"They're beautiful," A says happily, shaping the dirt into rows. "And they smell so nice. I will make candied violets soon, and you must eat some." He addresses both of them with that last.

Both kittens become more demanding in their bids for attention. "It is not something I have had before," Kusuriyuri replies between murmurs to persistent kittens. Both are telling him how dreadfully ignored they've been all day, though he knows and they know they are very well treated.

"I'm particularly fond of them, I will admit." Even more than his blanket policy of 'in case of sugar, less is not more, more is more!'

"I'll make extra for you, then." A beams. It's good to know things that L is particularly fond of, and even if he exhausts his garden's supplies, more candied violets can be obtained elsewhere.

"If one is careful, then violets will bloom for most of their growing season. As will roses and lavender. I am sorry for not helping," Kusuriyuri murmurs as the kittens are still demanding his hands.
