Most likely it was adrenaline from standing in front of a serial killer, and the fact that he'd just exploded and survived.

He could see that the little jealousy comment had gotten to Sylar - Claude had once called Peter's ability 'empathic mimicry', and maybe it wasn't all that far off - but it didn't make Peter feel all that good about himself. Not that he wanted to compliment Sylar, but... Peter was still getting used to the whole 'beating people up' thing.
