Semi-Open RP: Molly finds STFU

Molly, having eaten some of the Easter Bunny's chocolate and made full use of her newly-regained childhood, was hunting for something familiar. She had only been to the STFU suite once, but she felt like hunting Nny down now--hey, he'd actually be taller than her now! And he had all kinds of swords and knives and sharp pointy things that somehow seemed even cooler now that she was small again.

She giggled, running through the hallways and dodging anything and anyone who might be in her way. She didn't know just what had caused this change, and she didn't know how long it would last, but God she hoped it might be forever.

Molly knocked on the door--even as an eight-year-old, she knew better than to idly stick her head through a door anywhere near Nny's dwelling--and stood on her bare tiptoes, balancing like the world's smallest, grubbiest gymnast.

Molly thought about that, insomuch as she was capable of thinking through the Narrator's sudden babble. Did she want to be a child again, forever? Part of her--a very, very large part--said hell, yes. The Narrator would be gone, and she'd have everything, every sense and thought and sheer happiness she'd had this last day....

...but on the other hand--actually, it was kind of hard to think of an 'on the other hand'. On the other hand, being an adult wasn't bad, aside from the Narrator. What if--what if she could duplicate just part of the chocolate, the part that regressed her senses?

"I don't know," she said at last, slowly. "I mean...I'd give almost anything to get rid of him...but if I was a kid, I could hardly be your quasi-mom. That would be weird even for this place." She actually managed a weak laugh.

"But..." A slow blink. "Having your head to yourself. Isn't that more important? I want you to be grown for the wedding, though. To do the ceremony."

"It...it...." Molly couldn't begin to know how to articulate it. "I mean--I couldn't be a kid forever. Sooner or later I'd...I'd have to go back, if I ever leave Hogwarts, and if I--you know, if I'd been a kid for so long, and then had to come back to this...." It would snap her mind like a twig. "And...well, shit, you're not my kid but you kind of are, and if I was a kid you couldn't be, and...fuck, I'm not making any sense."

"It wasn't any better for me, when I was a kid. But it is for you. If you wanted to be a kid, I'd look out for you instead."

Molly looked at him, and now she did manage a smile, albeit a small one. "You know, all my life, almost nobody's looked out for me," she said, wiping her eyes on the back of her hand. "I...if I can't figure out how to make just part of the chocolate work, I might, but...hardly anybody's looked out for me, but on the other hand I've never really had anyone to look out for, either. And I think you kinda need it more than I do, because...because...well, because I've been crazy longer, I guess. I'd--I mean, I'd say it was kind of a mom thing, but it'd be in a 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' kind of way."

"In a crazy-mom sort of way, you think?" Nny laughed. "I don't think a sane one would work out for me. But if you have a way to get... get that thing out of your head... you should, should at least try..."

"I know. Now that I know--now that I know something can do it--I'll try. I didn't think there was anything I could do, before...."

"Molly, wait! Come on, you like me, don't you?" the Narrator was almost pleading, scarily enough.

"No," Molly said. "I don't. I never have. And I'm going to make you go away." She shook her head again, fingers pressed against her temples. "I've still got some chocolate left...I bet I know someone who can figure out why it did what it did."

Nny swallowed hard, and grasped the talisman around his neck. It was a while before he spoke.

"You need to do it," he said quietly. "If there's a way to get that fucking parasite out of your head, you need to do it. Make your brain yours again."

Molly looked at the talisman, and at him--she remembered he'd said something about Dib making him one, whoever Dib was. "I want it mine again," she said quietly. "I'd gotten so used to the idea that I couldn't ever get rid of him, but...I forgot what it was like without him, and now I know again, and God do I want it back." Nny had told her a little about his own invading forces, but she had a feeling she didn't know the half of it.

"Then you should do it. Do it, even if it'll make you a kid forever."

Would she be willing to be a child again, forever? It was probably a mark of just how horribly the Narrator had been affecting her, but she'd do it. If it was her only choice, she'd do it, even if it meant having to eat enchanted chocolate every day for the rest of her life.

She took the squashy remains of the foil-wrapped egg from her pocket. "It's funny," she said, apropos of nothing, "I always thought chocolate was the answer to most of life's problems. It's a little weird to be proven right."

"It is funny," he remarked. "I'd have put my faith in Pez."

Molly looked at him, and all her tension broke as she burst out laughing.

"I was always afraid of Pez dispensers," she managed, between snickers. "I thought they were going to eat my fingers."

She stuffed the gooey mess back into her pocket, heedless of the stains, and wiped her fingers on her shorts. "I...thanks, Nny. I mean it. I'm not used to getting help from someone who...who knows it all first-hand, I guess." Up until the last five years, she hadn't been used to getting help period.

"I don't like the dispensers," he said hastily. "Because... yeah. You can't trust anything with a face not to, well. You know. But you can get just the Pez. The refills."

"Chocolate and Pez," Molly mused. "Saving the world's sanity, one bite at a time. There are definitely worse cures."
