((This starts Friday morning. Good clean fun with appliances abounds!))
With minimal fuss, Sarah and Stephen had left the school by Floo to seek out a waiting cab in a nearby 'Muggle' village. Their destination, as far as Sarah knew, was Macduff Aquarium in Aberdeenshire, but this whole day just existing was already so incredible to her. They were leaving the castle - and with it she hoped the stress that had plagued them recently - and venturing out into the non-magic world which she had not been in since her arrival. To be fair, she had not gone beyond the castle and grounds except once to Hogsmeade with Stephen, so she was quite excited.
Settled against Stephen's side in the backseat of the cab, she was content to point out things that caught her attention on the drive - and even explain things that might have been interesting to a man from the 19th century - or simply just sit in companionable silence. The familiarity of being in a car after two months was refreshing because it was something distinctly non-magical and not connected to what they had left behind, and it was all that much better for having Stephen, who was already her new 'familiar', right next to her. They both needed this, in her opinion, so she had been ridiculously pleased when Stephen had mentioned the plans. Without knowing it (or so she assumed, as she had never mentioned her birthday), he had given her an early birthday present in this day trip out with him. There was no more she could ask for, and yet...
"Stephen, I think the cabbie's taken us to the wrong place," she said once she had gotten close to his ear to whisper without being overheard. Outside the window of the now stopped cab was a cottage, very lovely but not the aquarium she had been expecting to see. Too preoccupied with the view or with Stephen, she had not even noticed telling road signs that might have led to confusion much sooner.

Date: 2006-07-22 11:38 am (UTC)When they drew up to the cottage, Stephen did not even bother to feign surprise. It was as the agent had promised (he had made all his arrangements via an agent in London, with whom he was able to correspond via Muggle post; the existence of Muggle post had of course been revealed and explained to him by the house-elves when he received Ryuuji's Muggle-mailed wedding invitations, months ago). "Not the wrong place at all, my dear, merely a different right place than the one you expected," he said. "What do you say to the aquarium waiting until tomorrow?"

Date: 2006-07-23 07:57 am (UTC)"Oh yes, soda," she said gleefully, nearly pulling it out right now to have some. Resisting, she continued her inspection, her eyes growing wider. "Dear God, there's caviar, lobster, shrimp and truffles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truffle) in here," she exclaimed, looking back from the refrigerator at him in clear surprise. She pulled open the freezer portion as she shut the door, looking through it to find ice cream and multiple frozen foods. "And Chateaubriand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chateaubriand_steak)."
At this moment, Sarah was feeling the most spoiled she had ever felt in her entire life. Professors of magic school must be paid much better than American 'non-magic' professors, but still - the refrigerator and freezer was full on insanely expensive food. Impulsively, she crossed the space between them and kissed him, but pulled back and moved off before it seemed she wanted more to come of it. Her attention turned to the cupboard, natural curiosity wanting to look in them all. At one, she stopped and stared.
"This cupboard is an American junk food paradise," she said with a surprised laugh and a shake of her head, pulling out a bag of Doritos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doritos) and a box of Twinkies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinkies). At the sight of several boxes of Jell-o (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jell-O), she promptly started laughing quietly. Due to the full nature of the cupboard, not all the contents were visible, so the full extent of foods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_food) supplied was not revealed

"See, this is the news right here, those are the reporters and this is likely live, so they are in a building somewhere right now doing this as we watch. Hmm, we probably shouldn't watch the news, depending on the whole 'changing the future' concept." She click past it before temptation set in, stopping to watch the second. "And is a cartoon, which is all art that is animated." She looked back at him with a smile to see how he was absorbing this and then handled him the remote control she spotted. "This is the remote control. Those buttons," she put her finger on them, "change the channel just like on the TV."

As far as changing the future, he thought that if that had been a great concern, the Admiralty would not very well have sent him here. But then, he was known for his remarkable discretion; if anyone could be trusted not to spread tales of the 21st century in the 19th, it would be Maturin.
"I was told that people come here to visit the aquarium and the sea and to see local things, not to watch pictures of people in other places," he said.

They had not brought any type of suitcases as, obviously, that would have spoiled the surprise for her, and she had not even looked in the bedrooms when they were exploring. As far as she was aware, all her clothes were still very much in her room at Hogwarts. "All of my clothes were still in my room this morning... maybe there's a washing machine until they get here," she mused to herself and then looked at him. "Or did our clothes come while we were gone?" He had to have thought of clothes, because otherwise... no, she was not going to think along that line of thoughts.

"Well, there's always listening to music in the sitting room," she said, "or reading, or whatever you want, really." With that, she kissed him and then pulled back just slightly.

She laid her cheek against his to make the awkward telling easier, her voice falling to a faint whisper. "I love you, and you know I'd do anything for you... I would have waited as long as it took... but I did miss this." She would not trade the safety the potion had given her before, or the fact that it had put her in his bed indefinitely while she took it (a thing she greatly feared would end when the potion was no longer necessary) but she found she was glad right now that their bedtime aides were not here.

He also seemed not to grasp that the machine could be opened up rather than accessing it through the slot where he had earlier shoved, and then pulled out, a book. He was treating the slot as a sort of incision.
"The innards of this thing frankly baffle me," he said.

From:Sunday (Sarah's Birthday)
Date: 2006-07-29 09:46 am (UTC)slobcareless eater. No wand on her, she had been forced to resort to teasing scolding to get him to rid the bed of crumbs so they could have dessert. Dessert, in this case, being each other. This morning she had 'escaped' from the bed and managed to shower and dress and fix them breakfast with only mild distractions. After all, today was her birthday (and she still felt older than nineteen, oddly), so in her opinion, she was entitled to as many kisses as she wanted, especially if they were behaving so they could try for the aquarium today rather than another day abed. Somewhere in that reasoning Sarah knew her priorities might be off, but she did want to go to the aquarium and she knew he did too. They could go back to bed later - and even though this trip was her birthday present to her, she would play the birthday wish card if necessary, or just for fun.
Her own camera having not arrived in time from home, Sarah had planned - when this was a one-day trip - to ask to stop at a store to buy an inexpensive one so she would be able to take pictures and develop them later with the magic aides available to create moving photographs. As she still was camera-less, she asked Stephen if they could stop at a store a get the camera and film, to which he had readily agreed and she had gone to the phone book to hunt some place down. The store located to purchase the items and then a cab called, she put the phone back down and turned to Stephen with a smile.
"The cab should be here in less than ten minutes," she said, checking the inner pockets of her lightweight jacket for her wallet to make certain it was still there with other items she had stuck in the pockets. She had forgone any type of purse on Friday to use the jacket as one instead, even if the weather was warm enough to have no need to wear it right now. The weather changed so much here it was better to have a jacket at all times.

Date: 2006-07-29 10:27 am (UTC)At Sarah's direction the cab took them first to a small camera shop. (Stephen, having no idea that an aquarium might have a gift shop in it, did not know that cameras could be procured in such a place; and Sarah was not from a decade when disposable cameras were common.) The driver waited while they went in. Stephen did not think it should take very long to purchase such a thing. It was a very small device, was it not? He had seen Remus use one, once.

Date: 2006-07-29 01:28 pm (UTC)Looking around, Sarah's gaze was bright with interest to take it all in, and she did. Including the children. Many children. Her discontent with being around children was far less than an actual phobia, such as owls had become shortly after coming to Hogwarts, but going into a room completely full of the creatures that had previously unsettled her most had been part of the reason she now was so phobic and this... well, it was an awful lot like walking into a crowded owlry. Her grip on Stephen's hand tightened, but she did not react much beyond that. These were strangers, after all, and as she was nearly certain she would have no cause to test her temper, she knew she was not in danger of doing the thing she would always fear doing. Disconcerting, but she was not going to let it spoil her day if she could help it.
"It's really a zoo in here," she observed quietly, looking around at the crowd. "Surprising to see so many children here on a Sunday in the summer. Would have only expected it to be like this during the school year."

Date: 2006-08-01 10:33 am (UTC)She pulled back from the kiss to take a breath and look at him, her gaze moving over his face for a moment to try to gauge the cause of the wince. "Anything wrong?" she asked softly, not really knowing what it could be but hoping it was something simple like she had nipped his lip too hard. She did realize that Stephen and his memory-self often actively shared his body rather than attempted dominance as she tried with her own and while it might have been a cause for concern when Sarah had felt less confident in his feelings, it was not now. She knew Stephen loved her. However, she had no way of knowing that right now such a thing was occurring for him. Even insight mostly failed, as to her, the battle often had to do with being intimate. Yet, had she been thinking, she might have realized that what they were sharing right now was just as accessible as sex for her own memory-self because it was just as intimate to Sarah, only in a different way. For now though, her memory-self was laying low.
