With the knowledge that L is willing to pay for any computer equipment he might need (which is a relief - he hadn't been looking forward to attempting to get his hands on someone's credit card while shopping with the world's greatest detective), Matt had gone to Hogsmeade and used the last of his money to purchase a wand.

Now he needs to find out what to do with it.

So, he's heading for the library. What he understands of wizarding culture suggests there isn't going to be much on cybermagic, but Matt isn't against figuring out things on his own.

"Ah, where's the fun in that?"

He hadn't really thought about flying until now, but the more he does, the more eager he is to try.

Once he's got his computers sorted.

"Do we even have brooms to try with?"

L hasn't seen any available.

"No idea. I assume you can get some from somewhere, though... the house-elves, maybe."

What the hell did he do before he discovered house elves? Matt can't really remember.

"Unnerving as they are."

Weird creatures with big eyes.

"Yeah. Have you tasted their food, though?"

Which reminds him... "We should have picked up a McDonald's while we were out."

L makes a face.

"You consider their food edible? MacDonalds, I mean, the house elves are fine. Have they drastically improved, over the years?"

Matt laughs; he wouldn't have figured L for a food snob.

"Nah, not really. I like it, though. Gotta love some junk food every now and then."

By 'now and then', Matt means 'whenever I can be bothered leaving the house'. The food he eats the rest of the time is no less junkified; he just orders it in or puts it in the microwave himself.

"I do not like their sundaes."

For L to not like something sweet is unheard of.

"What about McFlurries?"

With Matt, it's the opposite way around - he doesn't like sweet things much, but he'll make an exception for McFlurries. Occasionally.

"I do not know if I have had one of those."

They might be alright. But privately, he doubts it.

"They might not have come out in... what was it, 1999?"

It occurs to Matt, yet again, how weird it must be to interact with people from your own future.

"1999. What were they?"

He can't imagine what must be in something called a 'McFlurry.'

"McDonald's ice-cream," even Matt knows there is a dividing line between this and real ice-cream, "with little mashed-up pieces of candy."

That does have the potential to be good.

"I will remember to try one, one day."

"Next time you go on a shopping spree?" he jokes. They're almost at Ravenclaw.

"The next time I need something, yes. Although I think I understand your distaste for it."

There were far too many people, wanting things.

"Yeah. But that wasn't too bad. You're good company."

They're at their rooms now, and L has to put the computer down to get the door open.

"So were you. Thank you for not laughing when I hit that man in the legs, it would have given it away."

He snickers. "That was fucking funny. I don't know how you can keep such a straight face at stuff like that. You want help setting up right now, or...?"

He needs to rest, and to settle Schrodinger in.

"Sure. Let me know, whenever." He places the box o'kitten carefully down inside the door. "Thanks for the computer. I owe you."
